Research on forestry and agriculture
This large field is regulated by a number
of different rules. These can involve, for example, genetic research,
animal protection, or environmental issues (see these other relevant pages in ERE).
In Europe there is the European Society for Agricultural and Food Ethics (EurSafe), which among other things arranges conferences and distributes a newsletter on field issues. Forestry researchers discuss ethics through Center for International Forestry Research, for example.
Certain guidelines are in place for specific fields, for example FAO's Pesticide Management Guidelines. In the area of forest research, IUFRO offers International Guidelines for Forest Monitoring and the guidance document Working Effectively at the Interface of Forest Science and Forest Policy. FAO and the WHO have a long line of documents under the heading Codex Alimentarius, which regulate standards in the area of foodstuffs. EU has decided on the accession of the European Community to the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
There are naturally many more detailed regulative and technical recommendations for various fields that the individual researcher is required to follow, but they are far too numerous and specific to be included here.
